An abstract, textile art piece.  Geological map of North Ayrshire coast and the island of Little Cumbrae.

The geology of this part of the West coast mainly consists of Old Red Sandstone, with the mainland dotted with pyroclastic rocks ejected from volcanoes over 300 million years ago.

To the North West of the piece lies the island of Little Cumbrae, the geology of this island indicates a series of volcanic lava flows, which have cooled leaving an amazing stepped landscape of basalt terraces.
The colours of tweed I have chosen to use in this mapwork each represent a different type of rock evident in the landscape.

Original, framed artwork available here.
