One of the best things about having an open studio is chatting to people about their favourite places. It's even more fun when a client tasks me with exploring a new place and bringing it to life in the form a textile map.
Have a wee look at some of the recent places I've been commissioned to recreate in my style.
Orcas Island, Washington, USA
Commissioned as a wedding gift. Orcas Island has special significance to the bride and groom. Orcas Island is one of the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State in the Pacific Northwest.
Shotley Marina, Suffolk, England
This simple piece was commissioned as a birthday gift. The marina is located at the confluence of the Rivers Orwell and Stour just opposite the major shipping port of Felixstowe. Featuring representations of colourful shipping containers.
Triple Locations; Scotland, England & Wales
Mam Barrisdale, Knoydart, Scotland. Roppa Edge, North Yorkshire Moors, England. Beacon's Horseshoe, Brecon Beacons, Wales.
Commissioned as a special gift by daughters for their mother. The three locations mapped hold significant meaning for the family and are all places they have walked together. And the contours are gorgeous!
Loch Feochan, Argyll, Scotland
This sizeable new art commission has come all the way from France. This is just a sneaky peak for the moment, as the client is patiently waiting for the framed piece to arrive.
I was thrilled to be able to visit this secret location on behalf of the client to take sketches and capture images of the place.
